Research and Development

Research and development is vital to Mitsubishi Electric. Our research and development centres in Japan, the USA and Europe are now working to develop the innovative technologies that will be used in the leading-edge global communication systems, production systems and products of tomorrow. Below is an overview of our most recent developments.

In Mitsubishi Electric, the R&D centres coordinated by Corporate Research and Development, such as the Advanced Technology R&D Centre, the Information Technology R&D Centre, the Industrial Design Centre and the laboratories in the United States and Europe, are closely linked to the research and development departments of each business group. With this solid structure, Mitsubishi Electric is able to concentrate its efforts on the development of the innovative products and technologies that will form the basis of its future activities.
To give a further boost to already strong areas such as elevators and escalators, factory automation and electrical and electronic components for industry, Mitsubishi Electric encourages the integration of its business and development strategies. Furthermore, by combining technologies from our main fields of specialisation, we are able to maintain our commitment to keep on creating new solutions in alternative areas such as the environment, energy saving and total security.
On the basis of the results of research and development initiatives shared internally within the Group, we are creating an effective development system that will make these resources readily available. We are also promoting activities aimed at acquiring intellectual property rights associated to strategies for business and development and strategies that can be used and standardised on a world scale. Mitsubishi Electric also promotes joint research programs, in collaboration with major Japanese and international research organisations, taking part in national projects and working actively with businesses, governmental bodies and academic institutes.
